Tanzania’s jewel to the world

Johari means “jewel” in Kiswahili, a name chosen for a gin that celebrates Tanzania’s natural treasures.

Fresh juniper berries handpicked in the hills of Lushoto give Johari its bright, distinctive character. Combined with spices from Zanzibar and 15 locally sourced botanicals, they create a gin that captures the flavours of its home. Unlike the dried juniper used in many gins, Johari’s juniper is used fresh.

This is what makes Johari unique.

Distilled and bottled in Tanzania, Johari has earned a Contemporary Gin category win at The Gin Guide Awards in 2024, Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in both 2025 and 2026, and Bronze at The Gin Guide Awards in 2026. Available in 700 ml and 375 ml bottles, Johari is a taste of Tanzania made to be shared with the world.

For Tanzanians

For a lot of the world, they only know Tanzania from what they’ve seen on postcards.

Our picturesque landscapes are part of who we are, but they’re not all that we are. They don’t define or do justice for who we truly are.

The real soul of the land is its people.

In the city smoke, amongst the rising buildings, manic markets and honking horns, lies the true soul of this country. Where the hustle and bustle is the pulse, connecting and breathing life into its inhabitants who celebrate life with one another.

Johari was created to commemorate all of the this, but more importantly, to present our people with a drink that they know is uniquely theirs, made from the hands who call this place home.
